Connecting Organisations with Students

Placements provide excellent real-world learning opportunities for students so they can develop into capable, work-ready graduates.

Since health professionals don’t just work in health services and community health organisations, the Going Rural Health team also work with other community organisations in our footprint to co-develop and support placements in non-traditional settings, such as early learning centres, schools (including specialist schools), Neighbourhood Houses and social support services. Examples of these can be found on our Service Learning Placements page.

Benefits

There are benefits and learning opportunities for students on these placements but there are also many benefits for host sites and communities. These include:

  • Providing much needed services for clients and the community (addressing service gaps)
  • Increasing existing services where there is a need (addressing a waiting list or providing intensive therapy)
  • Working on projects and developing resources for organisations
  • Bringing the most up to date practices or therapy to the community
  • Increasing the learning culture within organisations
  • Exposing students to organisations as possible future employers
  • Developing support and/or supervision skills of employees
  • Helping to build skills of future clinicians
  • Exposing students to rural communities as a possible places to live
