Professional development workshops

Our professional development workshops are evidence based and are designed to meet the evolving needs of rural health practice. Our support for clinicians working and supervising students in rural and remote health within our rural footprint includes:

  • Delivery of professional development opportunities to clinicians
  • Providing learning and teaching resources to support clinicians supervising students on placement
  • Connection to research opportunities and resources
  • Connecting health professionals with opportunities and training to develop cultural awareness

Professional development workshops currently on offer include:

Foundation of Student Supervision

This workshop acts as an introduction to skills in quality student supervision. It is designed to equip nursing and allied health professionals with an understanding of best practice in clinical supervision along with the practical skills to embed this knowledge. This session is ideally suited to staff with limited or emerging experience in supervision, such as new graduate and early career health professionals.

Duration: 2 hours

Mental Health & Wellbeing

This interactive workshop focuses on developing participants’ understanding of what wellbeing is, why it matters, and how we can apply evidence-based strategies to develop wellbeing. The session provides an opportunity to connect, reflect and explore practical tools for enhancing wellbeing within yourself, and in others. The content of this session is relevant to all health professionals and students and can be customised to meet the specific needs of the group.

Innovative Approaches to Supervision in Rural Practice

This workshop is designed to equip supervisors with an understanding of innovative approaches to supervision in rural practice, as well as provide the necessary knowledge and practical skills to implement these approaches. This session is ideally suited to nursing and allied health professionals who have had some experience with student supervision and / or those that are looking to incorporate innovative supervision models in their practice environment.

Interprofessional Supervision Forum

These biannual forums are hosted by Going Rural Health as an opportunity for student supervisors from nursing and allied health backgrounds to come together to explore best practice, share learnings, and troubleshoot ideas relating to quality student supervision. The session format includes presentation of a relevant professional development topic, followed by an interactive collaborative workshop.
