
Student Accommodation
The Department of Rural Health has a number of student accommodation sites within our footprint. The accommodation is available to both undergraduate and post graduate health professional students from any recognised Australian education provider.
Student accommodation typically includes:
- Individual bedrooms
- Single or double bed (mattress protector provided only)
- Desk
- Chair
- Bedside table
- Lamp
- Wardrobe
- WiFi
- Shared kitchen– all cutlery, crockery, cooking utensils, pots/pans, baking dishes, microwave, toaster, kettle, etc. (dishwashing liquid provided)
- Shared bathrooms
- Shared laundry facilities (washing machine, dryers, clothes hangers and iron/ironing boards)
- Cleaning equipment (vacuum, mop, etc.)
- Outdoor BBQ
- Bikes, helmets and bike locks
Students requiring a room must submit an online application to reserve their accommodation.
At least one week prior to arrival, students will receive an email from the Campus Life Team advising them of their accommodation’s address, as well as where they can collect keys.

What is the cost? (University of Melbourne Student)
Students who meet our support criteria will be charged the following.
All accommodation sites:
A fee of $50 per week for the first two weeks. The following weeks for the duration of your placement are at no charge.
Students who do not meet our support criteria will be charged a fee of $200 per week.
International students are unable to be accommodated.
What is the cost? (Non - University of Melbourne Student)
Students who meet our support criteria will be charged the following:
Ballarat, Creswick, Wangaratta, Shepparton and Echuca accommodation.
A fee of $50 per week.
All other accommodation
A fee of $50 per week for the first two weeks. The following weeks for the duration of your placement are at no charge.
Students who do not meet our support criteria will be charged a fee of $200 per week. Pending availability, eligible students will be made priority.
International students are unable to be accommodated.

Shortly after accepting your offer of accommodation, you will receive an email with your attached invoice. To view all transactions, please log into the Student Portal, click on left side menu and press the ‘My Account’ tab.
Accommodation payments can only be made via the Student Portal using a credit or debit card in the ‘My Account’ tab.
BPAY, Cash and Direct Transfers are not accepted forms of payment.
What time can I check in and out?
Accommodation is available for check-in from 2:00pm onwards and check out strictly by 10:00am.
If you are not able to depart the accommodation by 10am, a request must be submitted in writing at least 24 hours in advance to the accommodation team.
Please note, not all accommodation extension requests will be possible however the team will do their best to accommodate.
What should I bring?
- Pillows, doona and linen
- Towels and bathmat
- Coat hangers
- Hand soap for bathroom
- Laundry detergent
- Personal items (food, clothes etc)
How do I report a maintenance request?
All maintenance requests must be lodged via the Student Portal. Once you login to the portal, please press the “Maintenance Request” tab to lodge a request.
Once you have lodged a request, please check back into the portal to track the status of your request.

Student PortalAre visitors allowed in the accommodation?
Residents are allowed visitors and overnight guests by approval only. Please log into the Student Portal and complete a visitor application two days prior to the visit. Visitors must be at least 18 years of age and must upload proof of identification such as a licence or passport.
Please note: visitors can only stay for a maximum of two nights per week.
Cancellation & Amendments to bookings
All cancellations and amendments must be made in writing to the accommodation team, with a minimum of 14 days’ notice prior to arrival.
Any bookings that are cancelled within 7 days of arrival, will be charged a cancellation fee8
*Should this be out of students control, this will be managed on a case-by-case basis.
Terms and conditions
Residential Agreement and Code of Conduct must be reviewed and signed when accepting an offer. A booking will not be confirmed until this process has been fully executed.
All terms within the Residential Agreement and Code of Conduct must be adhered to.
