Numurkah
About
Numurkah is located 37 km north of Shepparton, 211 km north of Melbourne in the Goulburn Valley. It is a rural irrigation district, principally farming dairy, although fruit, mixed farming and grazing farms are also in the area.
The district’s first people are the Yorta Yorta people. European settlement began in the 1830’s, and Numurkah’s population rose steadily after it became the headquarters of the Murray Valley Soldier Settlement Area after World War I. 700 ex-servicement were given land to develop for agriculture.
The Numurkah area is also part of the Murray Farm Gate Trail; nuts, cheeses, wine fruit and other local produce can be purchased directly from local farms.
