Tocumwal
About
Tocumwal is located on the NSW side of the Murray River, on the border between NSW and Victoria.
The town has significant war-time history, as McIntyre Airfield at Tocumwal was the largest RAAF training base during World War II. The Historic Aerodrome Museum in Tocumwal details this history.
The area is still popular with pilots, and the clear skies and thermals are perfect for gliding. Scenic flights and flying lessons are also available.
Being on the Murray River, Tocumwal has many attractions for those who love the outdoors. There are beautiful riverside beaches perfect for relaxing, picnics and barbequeues, and the river itself is popular for swimming, canoeing, boating and fishing, as well as waterskiing. The giant Murray Cod – made of fibreglass – is on the Tocumwal foreshore.
There are many cafes and historic pubs to visit in the town for a hearty country meal and a glass of local wine.
