Hopetoun

Hopetoun is an agricultural community predominantly growing grain and legumes, along with some animal farming of goats, sheep and cattle.

Hopetoun is close to the Wyperfeld, Hattah-Kulkyne and Murray Sunset National Parks, so is an ideal base from which to explore these sites in the Mallee. It has a number of historical buildings that the local Historical Society helps to restore and maintain, including a settler homestead.

Lake Lascelles is located in Hopetoun, and is popular for walking, swimming, boating, bird watching and fishing. Camping is also available on the foreshore at the Mallee Bush Retreat complex. It is filled by the Grampians Wimmera Mallee pipeline, which ensures the lake will always have water.

Hopetoun Historic Mural was painted by local artists, and is a backdrop to the Memorial Park in the main street. It is 20m x 3.5m in size, and depicts the many different faces of Hopetoun’s heritage such as wool bales, native fauna and flora, indigenous Australians, and drovers.

Student accommodation provided by the hospital is available on a first come, first served basis. Warracknabeal provides free accommodation to students, with breakfast and one meal on a shift included.
