Skipton

Skipton is an agricultural town known for fine wool production, located in Victoria’s western district. It is known as ‘the home of the platypus’.

Mount Emu Creek has a healthy population of redfin and platypuses. Recent trapping surveys have shown that the platypus is breeding successfully right in the heart of the township. The best place to view these beautiful animals is in Stewart Park.

One of Skipton’s claim to fame was the Hollywood actress who moved to the town in 1918. The wealthiest farmer in the district returned from an extended trip overseas with a Hollywood bride – the silent movie star Claire Adams.
